Help reading baptism place
« on: Sunday 05 October 25 16:34 BST (UK) »
Please could someone see if they can read what place Thomas Fenwick was born at.
I found his baptism entry on Findmypast and the transcript says he was born at
Burneston, Yorkshire (North Riding), England in 1781.  The image doesn't look anything like Burneston.

Could be something like Crowthorp but please post a larger snip so we can see how the writer forms his letters.

Looking on Google maps, just south of Burneston is Carthorpe, which is what I think it says.

Richards, Meredith, Gower, Davies, Todd, Westmacott, Hill
Mid C19 Cardiff and Haverfordwest, the Marychurch family.

Thank you  teragram31510 and Drosybont.   Looking at it again,  I can see that Drosybont is right and that it says Carthorpe.    Thanks for both of your replies and help.

The transcript is misleading. It gives Burneston as the residence, but that was the name of the parish where the baptism took place.mTheir actual place of residence hasn’t been transcribed.

I’ve checked some of the other names on the same page. They are all listed with Burneston as their residence.

Hi JenB,
Yes, I have been getting confused about that too.  I've been wondering what to put on my family tree about where Thomas was born.   As you mentioned,  he was baptised at Burneston,  and I guess that Carthorpe is where he was born,  so I'll enter those details onto my tree.

Thanks for clarifying that for me.

I have family from Carthorpe and baptisms were at Burneston as no Anglican church there, only a Methodist Church.
