I think that the name written is Mafis. For the final S compare with the Francis Harris marriage on the same page March 12th 1713.

As they were married by licence you should be able to find the entry in the Bishops Act books at the Devon Heritage Centre & compare her name there. The reference or the correct volume is:

DEX/1/b/8   Act Book Volume 8   1704- 1719

Furthermore also at the Devon Heritage Centre is the library of the Devon & Cornwall Record Society which has transcripts of  the Devon marriage licences granted, using either of the above you may if it has survived find a copy of the licence bond or allegation, which also give the name of the bride.

Quote from the Devon Heritage Centre Catalogue
Marriage Bonds and Allegations: documents prior to the issue of a Licence

“The Exeter Diocesan marriage bonds and allegations, covering the years 1660 to 1842, were sorted some years ago into chronological (date) series for Devon (held in 169 boxes) and a separate series for Cornwall (held in 32 boxes). The Exeter marriage bonds have a maximum date range of December 1660 to October 1823 for Devon........”

I'm reading it as MASIE -check the end 's' in Edmonds below, or even in Agnes' own forename - the 5th letter is not an 's' in your Agnes' name. There is also an annotation to the right of Agnes' surname - it's repeated on a few other female entries - Li or Si.
Squance, Lillicrap, Dankester, Surtees, Yates

Thanks for this, DOB7. definitely worth considering.

There is an Agnes MAYSEY 1510 1681, Ermington, Devon (only 12 miles from Plymouth)...

Thanks as always jonwarrn for this. Definitely Mafis there. Still wondering if it might have been MAVIS, and just written down differently. The only Mavis families I can find are in Staffordshire, but again no record of an Agnes. This might just be one of those cases where we can only surmise.

So the films of these are here
https://www.familysearch.org/en/search/catalog/olib:4092067

Many films have been indexed by FamilySearch, but not all of them.
I do think maybe the bonds for 1713 are not all there. January - March 1713/1714, yes, and the bond could be dated the same day as the marriage (1 January 1713/14)
But if it was dated a day or more before, as they often are, then so far I haven't seen a film, say, covering December 1713.

This is fantastic, jonwarrn, thank you so much for the link.

I see what you mean about not all the files being there. Will keep checking them, but can't find anything so far. Frustrating if that period is missing!
