Sunday? School Picture for Dating
« on: Tuesday 30 September 25 15:42 BST (UK) »
Attached is a photo found in the family "pass me downs". Location unknown, but probably Mossley / Ashton under Lyne, Lancs. They do look a happy lot in their Sunday best, perhaps having to sit still for too long.
We have a couple of possibilities of identity and I have to guess at the date, but I'm sure there are better brains out there than mine to interpret the clothing.
Any help is much appreciated. (Do click to see full photo, only part will show in message)
Thank you for reading.

I can't help with dating, but I can say that the age group is mixed between young 3 and older 5 years.
There is even one child who looks not quite 3!

I think school was compulsory from 1880 in England at 5 years, so possibly not a school photo.

The clothing and ages look very similar to a school photo in my family collection, taken in Islington in 1906.
