Death details
« on: Tuesday 30 September 25 09:38 BST (UK) »
Hi folks
Can someone please help me with the last line on the death information for Archibald?
At first I thought M Croft was his mother but the death details for the person below has the same information!
What does “ lying M Croft “ mean?
Thanks

I concur. Lying in Croft.

But I don't know what 'Croft' means. Is it perhaps part of the kirk? Does the kirk have an undercroft?
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Thanks for your help…apparently
What is a croft in a church?
A vaulted chamber, partly or fully underground, usually used for storage. The term is sometimes used interchangeably with 'crypt', though crypt was used primarily as a burial place and place for holding relics, whereas an undercroft was used for general storage purposes.

Well you often hear of the “undercroft” which is the crypt, ie a sort of cellar under a church or especially a Cathedral where some burials were ,especially of Church lay officers and Clergy.
