trying to find a grave for Nellie Wilkie at Mountain Rise !
« on: Monday 29 September 25 19:21 BST (UK) »
my great aunt Nellie Wilkie also known as Helen (Ellen ) McCrory also all variations of McCroary/McCroarie !
she was born in Ayrshire Scotland on 21.4.1879, she went to South Africa in 1900!
she married Allan David Wilkie in Durban on 24.4.1992 but a duplicate of the marriage certificate was given in Pietermaritzburg on 23.5.1905 !
she died in Greys Hospital , Pietermaritzburg on January 18 1951.
her name on the death record is Nellie Wilkie nee McRory, it also says she was buried in the Mountain Rise Cemetery, Pietermaritzburg !
I have looked at the online Mountain Rise website but cant find her grave !
any help would be appreciated !
regards
Elinga

I note that David Allan Wilkie's death certificate, 7 July 1953, also states
"INTENDED PLACE OF BURIAL - Mountain Rise Cemetery"

Elinga there is a small group of 5 who go to Mountain Rise cemetery and try clear the graves and take photos. However it is 34 acres of land. They wait for winter and usually the grass is set alight which helps somewhat. I have asked them to look out for any Wilkie graves for you.

I tried to find out who might be holding the burial registers/cemetery plans. Saw something about Pietermaritzburg Town Clerk's office and issue of burial certificates - but didn't pursue.
