Two questions for Elizabeth
« on: Sunday 28 September 25 23:50 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

I am looking into one of my relatives, Elizabeth Parr, born aprox 1791 in Lancashire.

I have 2 records I am unsure of. I know that Elizabeth married John Parr in 1811 in Rainford and lived with her daughter Thomasine Ashall nee Parr.

I have found a possible criminal record for an Elizabeth Parr or around the right age on 20th October 1845 in Lancashire. The lady in question was imprisoned for 6 weeks due to Larceny. I wondered if anyone could see any information to prove or disprove this was her? In the 1841 Census she was recorded as Betty Parr and was living with husband John on Dukes Street, Liverpool. In the 1851 Census she is widowed and living with her daughter Thomasina, still at Dukes Street.

The second document is a possible burial on 16th June 1851 at St Martin in the Fields, Liverpool. The burial record says that this Elizabeth Parr died in the Workhouse. Again, I just wondered if anyone was able to clarify if this is the correct Elizabeth for me.

Thanks, Luke

The Elizabeth Parr who died Liverpool 1851 was 63 years old per GRO Index

You could get a digital copy of the death certificate to see who registered her death.

ADDED
Could be your Elizabeth Parr as Silver Street is off of Duke Street.

As far as the newspaper article goes, there are a great many by the name Elizabeth Parr so unless it says
"Elizabeth Parr of Duke Street" it's anyone's guess.

There is a newspaper article on 30 August 1845 saying that an elderly female called Elizabeth Parr to be committed for trial at the next sessions (which would fit with trial in following October) for stealing silver spoons from her employer - she was a housekeeper at the offices of Mr Lafone of Bevingtonbush road. The article refers to daughters(plural) but not clear whether Elizabeth had the daughters or they were daughters of the person she induced to pledge the spoons on her behalf. Was Thomasine the only daughter of your Elizabeth? I can see two sons with the family in 1841

Another article lists the items stolen - a lot more than just spoons. It says Mr Lafone returned from a trip to the continent and found the items missing and Elizabeth absconded. It sounds like she lived in, so likely a widow. When did John Parr die?

Thank you guys.

I have bought the death certificate and it is not for the right Elizabeth as it gives her husband as James Parr, Carter.

I do not know when John Parr died other than it was between 1841 and 1851 census collections.

I really appreciate your help, thank you both.

Elizabeth did have two daughters, Thomasine and Mary Ann, who is my direct ancestor.

Luke
