Occupation on 1935 marriage certificate
« on: Sunday 28 September 25 07:05 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I am having difficulty identifying the occupation of Arthur Normington on his 1935 marriage certificate.
Also Amy Jowett's fathers occupation, which looks like Cloth Presser?
Can you help.

Regards,

Janet

Hi, I think the second one reads Cloth Passer, Cloth Inspector

He is “semi skilled fitter aircraft work” in 1939.

Following and thanking Alan for his 1939 lead, Issac was living at the same address as a Cloth Raiser not Presser.

Could Arthur's occupation be Car-worker?

That second letter isn’t a good match for an ‘a’ looking at other examples on the image.

Were there motor works near Morley at that time?

I believe that motor manufacturers were co-opted into building aircraft parts around that time.

Apparently there was, by coincidence, Jowett Cars, a Bradford-based company, with Bierley being a suburb of Bradford.

Apparently the Jowett works was at Idle, so not particularly near to Bierley.
