I went into 4 shops locally,  no brass cleaner, last one had the wadding which I had to buy, don't like it but it did the job till I can get the proper  brass cleaner liquid.
Personally  I don't own any brass

Hello KG

I wish you well and hope your Op is a definite success!

Hello All

Gillg, a man wanting you to fall for him, or on him  :o  ;)  ;D (gone for a selection of faces, to be on the safe side).

Thanks LM, going A over T, happened in an isolated place, so only witnessed by those above.

I washed my lenses in warm soapy water, rinsed and dried them with clean tissue and noticed the pad on one side of the bridge was bent over!

The frame of my new glasses has taken part of the impact.

The lenses were unscratched and survived!

LM, if you have to try another cleaner, try it on an area, which is not too visible at first.

TY, no brass to clean, sounds good, but if it gets out the feline is fed with silver spoon, you'll have all the strays and homeless knocking on't Front door! ...

I've made sure I've no brass to clean - and the only silver on the house is the lovely old spoon the catfood is served with!Stylish, yes?
TY

Does the spoon have monogram lettering too?

It sounds like your're in Mayfair, rather than the Old Kent Road  ;D

According to usual monogram lettering on silver items the surname is usually the middle letter (which is sometimes more pronounced), so your furry feline will need two initials too ;D

So if your cat is male and your surname was Yorky, an example might be, Horatio Nelson Yorky = HYN on the spoon ;D

After all that rambling, I'd forgotten to mention my walk nearby in the Autumn sun ... on the Public Footpath through Well Meadow field (Thursday).

I watched Nina Conti, Wednesday night, with that darn cheeky Monkey.

Just woke up with a bit of an upper respiratory tickle, having a Ginger Green tea  :) now

Heard an "expert" on TV recently saying that Brown Sauce works if you don't have Brasso, or other suitable product.

I haven't tried it but worth attempting on an inconspicuous spot

Would try sauce but it isn't my brass, but I could try on something that doesn't matter so much and might not be noticed, the treasurer  did a fantastic job on some of it with a machine, means I need not clean it with abrasives, just give it a rub over, no one else does it except me.
Very chilly this morning

I have tried tomato sauce on marked brass, but it didn't really work, however now I'll try brown sauce instead.  We have various bits of brass and copper, including the front door knocker, also an Arts & crafts Hugh Wallis copper tray with steel inserts and an Art Nouveau Scottish planter.  Planished Brass and copper are not easy to clean!

I don't like the wadding brass cleaner, which breaks off into little bits as you polish.  For silver I have one of those metal plates with holes in it which you put into a bowl of hot water with your silver cutlery, etc.  It's magic!

My late Grandmother who died well over 50 years ago played the Brown sauce trick on coins in a saucer as though it was a magic trick.

She told us afterward that the Brown sauce contained vinegar and other ingredients, also acetic acid which etched the oxidation away.

Added:
It left the coin clean, but not polished.

 ---------------

Some brass was / is - lacquered brass.

Once that lacquer surface is cleaned away, it will need cleaning on a regular basis.

 ---------------

Some metallic items are only brass plated and if worn away, you will be down to bare base metal and it often doesn't clean very well either.

But I would expect church brass to be good Solid Brass, but cannot say if it was lacquered or not.

 ---------------

When I was an Apprentice, the Master Plumbing & Heating Engineer told me to go and tell the Housekeeper that we had to sweat a joint on a leaking polished copper pipe and the heat may leave it discoloured, even after polishing.

The Housekeeper told the Hotel Owner who summoned the 'Resident Engineer' (a Carpenter by Trade), who came down and we warned him that it would show up due to heating and I was sent off in the van to get Brasso Duraglit (a tin containing pre-soaked wads), to do our best to get it polished as near as possible.

Mark

Added: Tomato Sauce doesn't work, this is the result on some coins given me in change, it lacks the acidic content, to etch away the oxidation.

Added:

Brown Sauce left the coin clean, but definitely not polished, nor shiny.

It is more of an acidic process and I would not use it for polishing.
