Place of a Marriage
« on: Tuesday 23 September 25 14:38 BST (UK) »
Im looking again at the marriage of a direct line ancestor.

William Smith and Anne Bullevent 13th Apr 1760

LDS have the place as Claxby, Lincs. I cannot access their original document for this.

FindMyPast have the marriage banns and wedding blessed in Bigby, Lincs, same people and date.

Any idea why the discrepancy?

Im trying to put together a map on Google Earth showing development of this family but it jumped out to me that the marriage was at Claxby 1760, their son William was baptised Bigby 1765(William and Anne parents) and then William elder died Claxby 1766.

Thanks

FindMyPast are showing both places in their search results  :)

Looking at the images the Claxby one has the marriage where it states William Smith is of Bigby and Ann is of the parish (Claxby)

The Bigby image is only showing Banns dates

Thanks. Ok, clear now. I don’t have my FindMyPast sub now so could only see a copy of the banns I had, so place was Claxby and William the incomer from Bigby. That sheds some light on it, thanks. But it still then begs the question about the Bigby baptism 1765?

Williams occupation was a Carpenter when he married.
Banns were called 23rd March, 30th March & 6th April, as you mentioned they did marry on 13th April 1760.  Neither of them signed the register but just marked with a cross - Witnesses were Thomas Taylor and Ben Clark.

There is a burial in Bigby 15th July 1762 Wm Smith, a Carpenter, was buried age 53. He left a widow and children.  Is he likely to have been the father of the William who married Ann Bullevent

...
The burial of a William Smith in Claxby 06 Nov 1766 gives his occupation as a Farmer
