James Maguire - died Lathalmond Dunfermline
« on: Monday 22 September 25 20:19 BST (UK) »
I'm trying to locate any information on where in Ireland James Maguire came from. I've looked at his marriage record and census but they all just list Ireland. He died (aged 43 years) on March 15th 1874 in Lathalmond, Dunfermline and I was wondering if there was a death notice in the newspaper would that have more information. Would anyone be able to look that up for me please?

Have you seen this  1851 entry for Kettle

Catherine Green 38 b Ireland
James McGuire 21 son b Ireland

Catherine was still alive in 1881 & still in Kettle.  She died 1882.  Did James marry Janet Wallace in 1851?

You need to check the actual 1851 image in case the relationship has been incorrectly transcribed as son.

If it does say son - I would suggest you download a copy of Catherine's 1882 death cert to see whether James is mentioned on it

Her death certificate would only mention her son if he signed it as the informant. Since he was already dead, it will not mention him.

However it should confirm the name of her husband, and it should tell you the names of her parents, assuming of course that the informant knew this information.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Good point - had overlooked he died before her

His death cert may have his parents names if his wife had that info

1871 census (transcription): James Maguire, 40, born Ireland; wife Janet, 40; children Helen, 17; Catherine, 14;  James, 12; Jessie, 10; Ann, 8; Thomas, 5; and Margaret, 2.

1861 census (transcription): James Maguire, 32, born Ireland; wife Janet, 31; children John Wallace, 12; Helen, 8; Catherine, 5; James, 2; Jessie, under 1 year.

See screenshot for birth registrations of the post-1855 children. Pity none was born in 1855 as the birth certificate just might have said where in Ireland James was born.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions. I had looked at Catherine's death certificate. Her parents are listed as John and Mary Green but no other information. I'll keep looking for a location in Ireland but thanks again.
