  ???
I have two birth certificates for what I believe to be the same ancestor.

Rebecca Moore born 30th July 1865, Carrigart? to Robert Moore, blacksmith and Rebecca Hegarty. Birth was registered 6th August 1865 in the district of Milford Donegal

Rebecca Moore born 30th August 1855, Carrigart? to Robert Moore, blacksmith and Rebecca Hegarty. Birth was registered 8th September in the district of Milford Donegal

Both births look like they were registered by the same registrar.

So Im a bit confused as to which month she was born.

Could one be her birth and the other a baptism?

grasping at straws :-\

Hi,

Perhaps more likely the death of the first child and reuse of the name, have you looked for a death in the intervening time?
   It was not unusual.

Hi David
I did a search on ancestry , however I have not come across any deaths yet that come close  .

Irish genealogy civil records don't start until 1871

Thank you

Looks like same birth registered twice by mistake - by the father both times!
same parents, same location, registered about a month apart

Birth 1 , Birth 2

Civil registration of births began in Ireland in 1864.

Yes that's where the confusion lies with me,  I have those certificates from Irish genealogy one for 30th July 1865 and the other for 30th August 1865 all other details on birth certs the same.

Never easy finding the correct ancestors but lots of fun , and frustration ;D

The 2nd registration most likely has a 'fudged' date of birth, or Robert didn't remember exact day, so estimated a more 'correct' date to avoid fine for late registration. He 'signed' both registrations with his mark, so probably illiterate

Unfortunately Catholic baptism records for the parish (Meevagh) start too late to confirm baptism date.
