Transportation of George Doleman

Hi everyone,

I'm looking at family members again and am focused on George Doleman at the moment. I have very little on him - he was baptised at St Leonard's Church, Sedgley, Staffordshire on 30th April 1815. His parents were Samuel and Mary Doleman.

I have a Will for his father, Samuel Doleman from after his death on 11th May 1844 in Bilston. I the Will all of George's living siblings are mentioned and a brief few words are given re George. Samuel states that if George returns from abroad each of his siblings should give £5 of their inheritance.

One other possible record I found was a criminal record from Michaelmas of 1832 for a George Doleman, being charged with Larceny and previously with felony. The sentence was 14 years transportation. The record doesnt give any more information than this so I do not know if this is really my guy but that does seem to fit in my mind. He isnt left property like the others, perhaps as some kind of punishment and he is abroad somewhere.

I wondered if perhaps anybody else could find anything relating to the this transportation at all - anything that could perhaps prove this is the correct person or anything more about the crime or the sentence.

A long shot I suppose but worth a go.

of a George Doleman transported to Australia on the Lord Lyndoch in 1833. His native place is given as Staffordshire. 

There are several convict transportation records available online on various official and volunteer web-sites. Happy researching! 😊

Did he return to work as a shoemaker once he had freedom? Is this him in 1865?

From about 1857 a George DOLMAN, bootmaker, had a shop at 47 Parramatta St, Sydney. 

He opened a 2nd shop in 1865 at Brickfield Hill. 

In 1872 he advertised he was moving his Parramatta St shop after 15 years to 64 Chowne St, Pyrmont. 

In 1874 he advertised he was also moving premises from 47 Parramatta St to 70 Parramatta St. 

In 1881 he was moving his shop from Glebe St to Mitchell St.  These street's are in Glebe.

In 1893 a George DOLMAN inserts a notice for the funeral of his wife Margaret, to leave 125 Mitchell St, Glebe to The Necropolis.  (DOLMAN, Margaret. 5954/1893.  District Glebe).  I can't find this record on the Rookwood online search.

Later in 1893 a George DOLMAN dies at St. Mary's and is buried at St. Mary's.

Are these the same George and Margaret?

EDIT:  George's first wife Maria is buried at St. Lukes, Liverpool, NSW 04 Jan 1843.  Shoe makes wife.

That George Dolman is recorded on the burial record as a “labourer”, so I hesitated to include that death.
The age, 79 years, would fit, however.
