AM trying to find out why some of the Redshaw's came over to SA
I have a Jonathan Redshaw b1815, Kilham Yorkshire who went May 1850. His brother William b1823 died there in 1886, But when he went I dont know other than of his children some were born in SA after 1855. One of his daughters Margaret Ann was b1855 Kilham and is my GGM. She married a Charles Deacon out there and then came back to England with him.
The parents of Jonathan and William were Thomas Redshaw and Margaret Bessy Frost
TIA

In 1851 William Redshaw aged 30 b Kilham is a labourer & married - census entry shows "wife & children slept at her mothers in Kilham & were taken there"

Margaret had no middle name of Ann

REDSHAW, MARGARET  mmn      WREGGLESWORTH
GRO Reference: 1855  S Quarter in DRIFFIELD  Volume 09D  Page 235

Marriages Sep 1848
Redshaw    William         Driffield    23   64
Wrigglesworth    Mercy

In addition to Margaret son Jonathon was b 1848 & Joseph 1853

No obvious 1861 entry so presumably emigrated between 1855-1861

You can view a probate record at FamilySearch which lists births. I'm assuming you are registered with them? It's free.

Jonathan and William were both labourers, but Kilham is a farming area so it would have been land work
I have details of their birth, marriages and family its the puzzle of their emigration
