That's another strange thing. The record of their arrival mentions Margaret, two step sons, Thomas and Crawford, daughter Margaret, and last, an 8 year old boy named John. I believe that is James and they made a mistake when taking down his name. Either that or the name on the 1881 Scotland census record should be John and not James. As for his age being off, Margaret's age is off as well. Perhaps it was less expensive for children to travel so they lied about their ages.

I've tried searching for a John Lynn in Scotland as well but, no luck. I think James/John died shortly after arriving in the US (and before the 1900 census) and since there were no death records required by law at that time in Pennsylvania that's why we can't locate him here.

As for the two living children you mentioned on the 1900 US census, in daughter Margaret's obit in 1939 it mentions she had a brother named William living in Ireland. He must have been one of the children born to William and Margaret before 1864.

Have seen a few deaths of possible children of William and Margaret .I also came across a marriage for a
William Lynn 6/12/1873 father William Lynn labourer
He married Elizabeth McKeag witnesses was James Lynn
And Mary McKeag
Address was Grangee which is the same address where some of the children of William and Margaret were born

I also found marriage for James Lynn 8 /12/1874 father William Lynn labourer address Grangee he married Mary McKeag witness was a James Hagan
So looks like the brothers married the sisters of McKeag
Family .James Lynn died 1875 in the workhouse and Mary marries again 1878

So if William is mentioned on his sister's obituary that
Would account for the 2 living children mentioned in the census record
You can view these records on the Irish Genealogy.ie district Newtownards

Thank you so much Rosie for all your help.

I will check out the records you mentioned and do some research on their children as well.

Your welcome I found it easier to put in the name Lynn and the district Newtownards on the Irish site .
Maybe the husband William Lynn went back to Ireland ?
