Emily Mary Spencer/Greenwell

 I’m trying to find out what happened to Emily Mary Spencer b. 1838 at Durham, daughter of Joseph Marley Spencer & Jane Greenwell, between 1851 and 1870.

In 1851 she lived at 5 Hudson’s Buildings, Durham with parents and siblings. There is no sign or her (and her family are missing too) in the 1861 census.

She then shows up years later having an illegitimate daughter; Rosa Emily Margaret Spencer born 9 March 1870 at 9 Crompton(?) Street, Paddington. Then in August 1870 she is going by “Emily Shott” living at Bedlington.

She is supposedly married to a man named Edward/Edwin Shott, a commercial traveller (in 1874, a drapers traveller). However he’s not on the 1871 census at Bedlington w/ Emily and daughter. Edward/Edwin sometimes appears with the middle name Arthur on children’s birth registrations.

Emily had three more children; Emma Flora (1872), Edwin Arthur (1874) and Emily Rosa (1877). She then married Arthur Richard Fry in 1880 and those remaining children took the name Fry.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Find My Past transcription incorrectly shows the following ...

Elizabeth Ann ang 26
Emily I age 23

Margaret age 13

However looking at the original entry, the surname is Spencer and Emily I is actually Emily M.

Just had a quick look on Ancestry and they have correctly transcribed the surname as Spencer and Emily as Emily M
