A Patricia COWARD died in Newport district in 1998. Probate with Will. Date of birth 18 November 1931

Pretty sure this will be a red herring as I have a Patricia Coward born November 1931, died 1998 Monmouthshire. I knew her and from the information you have they are definitely not the same person.

Yes I decided the Patricia who died in 1998 was red herring last Friday - when I found the later death in Llanelli.

Well Debs only ever asked whether Pat, the ex wife of her uncle, was still alive and we answered that. All this stuff about Patricia's family was just us filling in the background and going down rabbit holes due to our curiosity.
I still have not sorted out how Patricia's name changed from SMITH to HILLIER after she left Debs' uncle. Maybe HILLIER was the surname of the famiky who adopted Patricia. Was she sent up north due to the war or because her parents had split up?
Still - time to close the book on this one.
