James Hollick - Shippon, Berkshire 1801
« on: Thursday 11 September 25 16:47 BST (UK) »

Can some kind soul locate a baptism for James Hollick, born c1801 in Shippon, Berkshire, please?  He's living in Highworth, Wiltshire by 1841 but I can't find any records relating to his birth family.

And if, in the process, you find a sibling called Henry I'd be extra delighted.

Thank you  ;D

The witness to the marriage of James Hollick to Mary Emmett 24 Feb. 1823 was John Hollick

The witness to the marriage of Henry Hollick to Catherine Barnes 11 Oct. 1822  was John Hollick.

Is John a brother or a father, could be a cousin?

Ooh, good catch!  I hadn't noticed that so thank you!  Now, I've no idea who he is but it's another clue.

My ancestor is Catherine Barnes, married to Henry Hollick.  James is the father of another James Hollick I came across on the tree of a DNA match.  All three were in Highworth, Wiltshire at the same time but James snr says he was born in Berkshire, Henry born c1795, claims he was born in Highworth.  If they are related it would double the DNA connection with this match.  I can't find baptisms/parents for James or Henry.

Thank you again, every little bit helps  ;D

Do you have these newspaper articles?  As they are both children of Henry and Catherine it could be

a general inquiry or to do with his estate.

Bath and Chronicle Weekly, dated 5 September 1895
Hallock or Hollick or Hallick, Frank or Francis widow or children of born at Highworth,  Co. Wilts Killed in a railway accident near London upwards of 25 years ago. Advert "Times" August 13, 1895

Hallock, Hollick, Hillock, James or representatives of, left Highworth, Co Wilts about 20 years ago, as is believed for Portsmouth, Army  Pensioner. Advert "Times" August 13 1895

Interesting!  I didn't have those but will look for them now - a few more clues!  Thank you once more, amondg!  I've been focusing on the origins of 'James of Berkshire' aspect as that's an important question right now although everything discovered is valuable.

Thank you  ;D

Thank you, Neil1961. ;D

You're all kindly adding to my Hollick knowledge for Wiltshire but this post was about a potential Berkshire Hollick - will the mods feel obliged to move this thread?  :o Anyone who can work out who James's parents are would make an old girl very happy ;D ;D ;D ;D
