Have you contacted the Berkshire Historical Society or the Berkshire Family History Society?

You may have better luck.

I did contact the FHS but no joy.  I haven't found John snr and Susannah's marriage either and went down a rabbit hole following Alice before realising the poor soul had been buried as an infant.  I'll keep looking but thank you again, everyone.  Your help as always is appreciated.

I noticed that Shippon and or Shipton are not in Oxfordshire!

There is an Alice who belongs to someone

John Hollick married Susan Speck at Hannington 1828 witness Alice Hollick and James Stone

George Hollick married Eliza Barnes 1829 at Highworth witness Alice Hollick and William Barnes

They appear to be sons of John and Susanna so perhaps another Alice was born later after 1811.

FindMyPast is transcriptions only of Highworth baptisms.

Have you checked the originals to see if Alice was bap. and buried on 24 February 1811 (born 1 Feb.)

Hollyoak not Hollick or if it is a transcription error.

........... so perhaps another Alice was born later after 1811.

Seems likely, as there is an Alice with her mother in 1851 (as per my earlier reply) and also 1861 census.

All true!  Family Search has entries for a baptism and a burial for Alice on the same day, but there is an Alice with a mother Susannah in later census so it's possible the next baby girl was Alice - that ones birth is appropriate.  And an Alice was a witness at a wedding, as pointed out.

Shippen is in Berkshire and I can't find a baptism for James there.  Nor can I find a marriage for John and Susannah, when/if I do all may make sense.

Another reason for dithering about Alice was that mum Susannahs' place of birth varied from census to census.  In 1871 it was somewhere in Middlesex but I discovered there is also place in Wiltshire, more likely, but how did Middlesex creep in?

Anyway, thanks for your thoughts and suggestions  ;D
