Whilst researching my Catholic ancestors (particularly in Glasgow) I’ve noticed a few cases of where a female and male sponsor of a child end up getting married at a later date. I’m curious if anyone has come across this before? Is it some sort of tradition-be a sponsor before marriage?

For example;
Ellen Rooney bap at St Paul, Glasgow in April 1867, the daughter of Michael Rooney & Mary O’Hara. Her sponsors were Bernard Rooney (Michael’s brother) & Bridget McKenna.
Bernard and Bridget then got married a few months later, 15 July 1867 at Hutchesontown.
