George Huckbody CORDLEY - 1831
« on: Sunday 07 September 25 13:30 BST (UK) »
I have seen (Find my Past)  that George Huckbody CORDLEY was removed 1831 from Pinchbeck to Weston  under the Poor Law,  is there a way of seeing the full record and whether his mother was removed with him - I believe she was REBECCA CORDLEY, b 1802;  his father was JAMES HUCKBODY b 1800.

George was baptised 31 Oct 1822 in Weston, naming both parents.  In 1841 he is a Blacksmith's apprentice in Pinchbeck.

My main interest is his mother Rebecca CORDLEY, and her parents.  I would also like to know her birth/death dates...

Rebecca Cordley is in my family tree.
I will have to look up my F.H, files .
There is a book “For God and Gold “ about my great grandmother’s family ,those who went to Australia ,the gold fields of Bathurst and Sofala.
She married into the Cole family of Pinchbeck Fen .
Look the book up, our family tree researched by a descendant of Rebecca
I am her great great grand daughter .

Rebecca seems to have remained in in Pinchbeck for the rest of her life. She can be easily spotted in the Census records up to and including 1871.
Also this burial record:
Rebecca Cole (age 76, abode West Pinchbeck)
Buried 27 May 1878

As far as I know it is Rebecca Jane Cordley (b 1803 in Weston) who marries Thomas Cole in 1824.  Their son Thomas heads off to the goldfields in Australia.

I do wonder if this is the same Rebecca who had the child George HUCKBODY Cordley, which is why I want to see the Removal details.  Or is this a different Rebecca?

And either way I don't think we have ever managed to identify the parents...  of Rebecca CORDLEY.

I suspect that if George was being removed in 1831, his mother Rebecca could have been married approx 7 years to Thomas Cole. They have sons baptised 1830 Robert and John 1832.

Yes that's certainly possible, she married Thomas Cole in 1824 and they had several children.

If there is just one Rebecca, was George living with the COLE family for seven years before he was Removed in 1831  (Bastard aged 8) ??  Would he have been removed on his own, leaving mother with husband???  What might have triggered the Removal?

This is why I would like to see the Removal Order.  Does anyone know where the Records are held??

And just to complicate matters...  George Huckbody's father James and wife are removed from Pinchbeck in 1830 - the year before George is removed (aged 8)  .  They are found in Thirlby in 1851 and 1861.

Again - where can I find the records for these Poor Law Removals?  Lincs Archives?

The baptism which took place at Weston shows his father as James Huckbody, a Farmer of Crowland and his mother Rebecca Cordley a servant of Weston.

How do you know that it was the James Huckbody who was married to Mary that fathered George, there was a James Huckbody who died in 1836 age 54, abode Crowland that could have been his father
