Thanks. Sadly Bix in the photo died 4 years ago at about 20 but is still missed.  He was as laid back as he looks  :)

Hello Kay99 this is the one 1841 census I have saved okay. I am hoping its the right family. Yesterday I did another search on Parish Registers online lancashire typing in the parents Richard and Ellen, to see what children they had together. The Thomas Smith my ancestor wasn't shown only another Thomas born/bap 21/12/1809. My ancestor Thomas Smith bap.29/3/1822 St. Chad Poulton-Le-Fylde, Lancashire Abode Thornton, Occupation: Labourer son of Richard Smith & Ellen. Thomas migrated to Australia onboard the Vessel Hope which was built I think in Blackpool Lancashire. He settled in Penrith and built a similiar version of the house he lived in, Thornton Hall a beautiful home near Penrith you can only see it by rail. But thanks to my other ancestor Laura Player (who lives in Perth) has saved this home, with a large verandah, tall ceilings and polished floors,  from being pulled down. Thomas Smith then married a Jane Laimbeer who also came out to Australia as a servant to a Minister, on the 6/3/1843 St. Bartholomew Church of England. He was 74 when he died. Jane died 26/6/1899 (75) Thornton Hall Penrith N.S.W.  They are buried together in the same church grounds. They named a Street after Jane. I need to find more records of this couple, I lost a lot of files when my computer was hacked twice at the beginning of the year. Maybe some of the files will be on the windows 10. Have a good weekend. :-[

How wonderful to know so much about your family.  You may already have this but I attach a newspaper clipping from 10 July 1841 Preston Pilot re the auction of estates in Thornton near Poulton-le-Fylde which included Thornton Hall

Afternoon Kay99, thanks for the lovely photo. It is amazing what you find when you are searching. I tried to log into laura Player (nee Smith) it's sad she lives in Perth and gets around in a wheel chair mobile I think. Thanks to her she saved Thornton Hall House here in Penrith, and now it has been completely restored to the original. With a family in a drawn horse sulky outside the home.  :-[

Thanks again for your help Kay99, I did have someone searching for me a long time ago with Richard Smith and Ellen ancestors and their result and decision were different. I tried to purchase the Death certificates from the GRO UK this morning. I had no luck, I am sure I filled in the form correctly. :-X

Morning Janet

Can you post brief details of the previous research and which death certs you were trying to buy for Richard and Ellen?  Were you trying to buy the certs on the GRO site?

Kay

Added - Sorry the death certs - presumably the death certs I mentioned in Reply 4 previously

I find the easiest way to buy a cert on the GRO site is to find it on the  Search the GRO indexes page https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/indexes_search.asp#Results

With certs of these years you should have the option to buy a digital image of the cert for £3
