Thank you all for looking, it’s definitely an odd one isn’t it, at least now I know it’s not just me missing something obvious.

I actually got the birth and death certificates for Alexander who also died in 1856 in the hope of finding a clue. His father registered the birth and when he died in March 1856 Mary Ann Newland registered the death. I don’t believe she was a family member so maybe a nanny or nurse.

The husband Alexander Forfar was an “interesting” character, I did wonder if Sarah left him and he put the notice in the paper for appearance’s sake but maybe that is a bit too far fetched.

Thank you all again for your time and effort.

Thank you both for your further help.

I think the husband Alexander Forfar died in 1877 in Bermondsey although it’s hard to be certain it is him as the death certificate doesn’t give anything conclusive.

Odd there does not appear to be a death registration for Sarah but just one of those things I suppose.

Thank you again,

1875 1876 Alexander Forfar is at 81 Wellington street Luton.
 Bedfordshire Electoral Registers.
He doesn't appear later.

There's a few trees on Ancestry with death 1877, but non have full details. Some have him in Ontario ???
No one has a death for Sarah. It's so frustrating.  I suppose a long shot is trying the Bedfordshire Records office with the information you have, you will have to pay for a search.
I had to do that for a marriage in Merthyr in 1880s. It wasn't showing anywhere online but it was in Welsh newspapers
It was found because I had the exact date and place.  How it was missed goodness knows.

Who registered Alexanders death, what was the full address. There may be clues.

Have you thought of looking at the cemetery records to see if in fact she was buried?

Luton had 2 new cemeteries at that time.

https://bedsarchives.bedford.gov.uk/Using_Our_Collections/Collection-Guides/Birth_Death_and_Burial/CemeteryRecords.aspx

They would prove she did die and either the death wasn't registered or it is missing from the GRO records

Thank you both for the further help.

I have tried the usual online resources for possible burials but nothing found.

The death certificate for Alexander in 1877 is not overly helpful, the age is right but the informant appears to have been his landlady and occupation of Town traveller, I assume salesman, is possible but not conclusive.
