Records for Pentre-Ty-Gwyn and Cefnarthen Chapels
« on: Wednesday 03 September 25 12:44 BST (UK) »
I expect I know the answer to this - but does anyone know if copies of the parish records for Pentre-Ty-Gwyn Chapel and Cefnarthen Chapel are at any location other than the National Library of Wales? Has anyone transcribed them? Or is there a microfiche or cd purchasable with them on?

I suspect the answer is no, and I will have to go to the NLW, but I wanted to check first!

I have actually messaged The Genealogist about their non-conformist records to ask if they have Pentre-Ty-Gwyn and Cefnarthen records in their catalogue, as they don't list what records they do have. So it was a good shout gc1!

Have you tried Carmarthenshire Archives?

Assume CMN RO = Carmarthen Records Office, TNA = The National Archives (UK)?

Thanks osprey, willyam and hanes teulu for your help and input.

I should have made it a bit clearer I was searching for the pre-1750 records of Pentre-Ty-Gwyn, plus any of the Cefnarthen records.

The Archives and Records Council Wales's (ARCW) collection which I believe makes up most of the Welsh parish records on both Ancestry and The Genealogist does include post 1750 records for Pentre-Ty-Gwyn. I forgot this and already have the necessary records from Ancestry for that period from Pentre-ty-gwyn.

I know someone who is researching the same family, and they went to Carmarthenshire Archives for the same parish records and were told by staff that most of these records were missing and they believe many years ago they were taken by historians/writers from an Antiquarian Society or something similar for the purpose of writing a book on certain notable families and the records were never returned!

For anyone researching these records, these are the ones which are known to exist which are at the National Library of Wales (NLW). With a small selection from Cefnarthen available at Carmarthenshire.

Pentre-ty-gwyn
Baptisms - 1769-1837 (NLW) (ARCW collection - online at Ancestry, Genealogist, etc)
Marriages - 1733 to 1751 (NLW)
Burials 1734 to 1774 (NLW)

Cefnarthen
Baptisms - 1730 to 1770 (NLW)
Baptisms - 1731-55 (Carmarthenshire Archives)
Burials - 1730 to 1774 (NLW)
Burials - 1731-55 (Carmarthenshire Archives)
Marriages - ??

Thanks for clarifying.
Spent many hours at Carmarthen Records Office chasing "rellies".
