INNES George John
« on: Tuesday 02 September 25 22:56 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find out some details for George John Innes born 1909  to Andrew James Innes and Elziabeth Pirie.  The birth certificate states illegitimate.  Andrew came to Australia, married and died here.  Elizabeth and young George are on  the 1911, 1921,census living with her family.   There was an email sent to a city in Australia from an Albert Innes looking for information on his grandfather  Andrew Inness.  So this indicates that George had a child called Albert.
Did Elzabeth Pirie marry?   Did George Marry or cohabit  and have children.
George John Innes died in 1991  mother listed as Pirie Turriff.
Will the death certificate show children?  Would a local newspaper carry death or funeral details?
Any help appreciated
Regards Jenny

Re marriage for Elizabeth.  You need to look on Scotlands People from 1921 as she was unmarried at that time.   If no marriage found - look for a death.

Re George - use SP to search for a marriage/death

www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk  The index is free but you need to buy credits to download any of the certs

It's a good site but it's not a subscription site so you have to buy credits if you want to download any marriage or birth certs

Assuming George married in Aberdeen there is a possible marriage in 1933 in Turriff & a possible birth of a son in 1946

Elizabeth and young George are on  the 1911, 1921,census living with her family.
What were the names of her parents? Were there any siblings listed in either census?

How do you know that Andrew Innes didn't have any other children who could have been the father of Albert?

You would need to get a copy of his death certificate, which should name his parents, including his mother's married name if she did marry, and his wife/wives. You can't see this online as it's less than 50 years ago, but you can order a copy from Scotland's People.

Will the death certificate show children?
No.

Would a local newspaper carry death or funeral details?
It might, but accessing it online may not be easy as it's relatively recent. The most likely newspaper would be the Aberdeen Press and Journal, or maybe the Turriff Advertiser.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Searching SP from 1921 & using Turriff as the Reg District shows an Elizabeth Jane Pirie marriage in 1921 to a James Ironside

George's birth was registered in Marnoch - Banffshire.

What birthplace is given on the 1911/1921 censuses?   What is Elizabeths birthyear & birthplace plus mothers maiden name
