Napsbury Hospital, St Albans
« on: Tuesday 02 September 25 10:17 BST (UK) »
I am trying to locate a Henry Jaques born 8 Nov 1889 in the 1911 and 1921 Census.  I believe he could have been in the Napsbury Mental Hospital in either of these census's as he was there in 1939 and died there in 1961.
I have put Napsbury Hospital in the search on the 1921 census but nothing comes up.  Not sure of the road it was on.
Many thanks

I think that was on a who do you think you are episode I watched recently but can’t recall who it was.

Does it not come up in an ordinary search engine?

Most mental patients at that time were shown as initials only.  Try h* in christian name field &  j* in surname field

The 1921 census for Napsbury Mental Hospital has all the patients listed by full name, and typed, which makes them very easy to find/read ( no Jaques listed).

the 1911 entries have patient surnames, but only initials for forenames.

Thank you for looking, back to drawing board.

Where was he born and who were his parents?

Did he have siblings he could perhaps be living with in 1911

He was born in North Finchley on 8 Nov 1889.  Father was Henry Jaques a Painter.  Mother was Sarah Ann Jaques nee Cousins.
I thought I had found all sisters in 1911 census but just looked again and cannot find Frances Abina Jaques born 1893.  In 1921 she was a Servant at Roedean Girls School in Rottingdean, Brighton.  Tried all spellings of her name but nothing at moment.
