Gravestone in Morden, London Borough of Merton
« on: Sunday 31 August 25 22:52 BST (UK) »
I am hoping I have the right group for my question,if not please could you advise me of the correct group. Thanks.

I am trying to research Herbert Jenkins born in Camberwell in 1883.
Herbert married Minnie Maud Campbell in 1906 and is with her on the 1911 census.
By 1921 Herbert has a lodger - Millicent Violet Moore and her child Ralph living with him.
On the 1939 register Violet is listed as JENKINS however I have found no evidence of Herbert marrying her as of yet. Violet was born in Edmonton as Millicent Violet Lowen in 1896.

a*****y has suggested that Herbert died in 1952 and is buried in Morden cemetery.
a*****y has also suggested that Violet who died in 1980 is buried with him.

Unfortunately I cannot read the top part of the gravestone despite enlarging it.

I wondered if anyone had an app or something that could clean the photo up in order to help decipher the writing above Violet’s name.

Many thanks

Looking at the original image https://images.findagrave.com/photos/2015/131/146391802_1431468752.jpg, I think the top part reads:
IN
LOVING MEMORY
OF
our dear father
HERBERT JENKINS
DIED 30TH AUGUST
1952
AGED 69 YEARS

Thank you CaroleW

Well I had Minnie’s death (see image) but didn’t join the dots.

Herbert married Minnie in 1906. He is with her on the 1911 census.
I have found two children - Ronald and Gwendoline. Jenkins / Campbell.
Herbert is head of house in 1921 and Violet Moore and her son Ralph Charles Moore is boarding with him.
Herbert is with Violet in 1939 and she is listed as Violet Jenkins.
Minnie is living with Arthur V Gale in 1939 with her two children. She is about 20 years older than him. She is listed as Jenkins. She is possibly just lodging.
(Yes I have her on the census in 1921 with her two children under the name of Campbell. Both children are too!)

I have found a possible child for Violet and Herbert born in 1945.

It was the inscription at the bottom saying “and our dear mother”  that made me wonder if names had been mentioned on the gravestone indicating that Herbert and Violet had children.

Herbert died first in 1952 and Minnie was buried on the 9th June 1965 obviously with him then.
