Are there any local authority rate books available?  They normally show the owner and the occupant, the latter usually paid the rates.

Don't think these are available. I have never seen them.

Valuation Revision records do list Laurence Nash at 2 Argyle Tce.

15 July 1938: Derry Journal
A long item. Laurence Cassidy of 25 Argyle Terrace appeared as a witness in a case involving a death in a road accident.

Sometime around 1947/48 if family stories are accurate my late granda John Cassidy’s sister Annie Cassidy got the deeds to the property ( john died in 1948) they were handed over in security of a family loan…anyway after John died my granny had to rent it from her sister in law the rest of her life…

Thanks Alan, Kathleen was a cousin of my mothers, I knew she had done something wrong. My granny took her in because she had knowhere to go.

If you want to know who was living at the address in 1939, you can send an FOI request to PRONI for a search of the 1939 Register, and they’ll look it up for you. (No fee to pay).
