Henry family, Down, NI
« on: Wednesday 27 August 25 16:51 BST (UK) »
Hi,  looking for any info on a Hugh Henry dob unknown, married to Bridget Gribben, date unknown.  This couple had two childen, Hugh born in 1827 and Cecily born 1829. Hugh Henry jnr. married Margaret Bartlett in 1849 in Newry.  Some of their children were born in Warrenpoint and the desendants eventually settled in Liverpool.  Any information on Hugh snr. would be gratefully accepted.  There seem to be so many Hugh Henrys that it's hard to be sure you've got the correct one.  Many thanks.

Just some links for others reading your topic to see... Hugh Henry junior was baptised on 20 May 1827 in Clonallon RC parish for parents Hugh Henry senior and Bridget Gribben:
https://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000633257?locale=en#page/8/mode/1up (right page, about half way down)

When Hugh Henry junior married Margaret Bartlett in August 1849, he did so in Newry Registrar's office:
https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/files/civil/marriage_returns/marriages_1849/09375/5395690.pdf

The address for him and his bride was Donaghaguy townland in Clonallon civil parish:
https://www.townlands.ie/down/iveagh-upper-upper-half/clonallan/warrenpoint/donaghaguy/

Ros Davies' website also mentions a marriage in a Clonallon RC Church and several children:
https://www.rosdavies.com/SURNAMES/H/Henry.htm
https://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000633256?locale=en#page/40/mode/1up (left page, 4th entry down)

Just three years after Hugh Henry junior's baptism, there is mention in the Newry Telegraph in June 1830 (a list of applications to register freeholds) of a Hugh Henry with houses and land in the townland of Mayo in Clonallon civil parish - this is borne out by the tithe applotment books (date reference 1834):

Hi Gaffy,  Thanks very much for the information most of which ties in with my records.  I also have another child Catherine born c. 1854 in Ireland, but not mentioned on Ros. Davies website.  I don't have a baptism date for her but she is with the family on the Liverpool census for 1861.  If anyone has any info on her I'd be obliged.
Thanks again.  Issy
