Am I reading this place name correctly? PITSCHEN, Silesia, Prussia
« on: Wednesday 27 August 25 11:16 BST (UK) »
I'm researching Wilhelm Emil Oskar Rosenblatt who I believe was born at a place called Pitschen, Silesia, Prussia on 23 Apr 1850.

I have two sources, with both being different (see attached):

• A marriage record which looks to say Wilhelm was born Pitschen. There are three Pitschen, with two being in Silesia: https://www.meyersgaz.org/search?search=Pitschen
If it is Pitschen, how do I know which of the two it might be?

• A death certificate which looks to say 'Pitzcaen' which I can't find, so could it be that it was not recorded correctly?

Any thoughts? I've been puzzling over this for a while.

Any assistance would be appreciated thanks.

Pitschen looks pretty clear to me.  I wouldn't put much weight on a German place-name on a British death cert ! especially soon after WW1 ?

Yes, it is Pitschen in Schlesien
Which one??

The only lead i can see, is that on his marriage cert. his father is stated as being a deceased Ziegelmeister = master brickmaker
So Pitschen would be close to a place with a brickmaking industry

There was a brick factory (Ziegelfabrik) in Kreis Striegau according to the business directory of Silesia 1856.
However, German settlers brought the art of brick making to Silesia in the 13th century  and particularly settled in Lower Silesia, so there was probably a brick industry near Kreuzburg too.

I think it reads " hujus" meaning " of this",  so he would be born April, and not after he was baptized  :D
