Corley Croft
« on: Monday 25 August 25 12:08 BST (UK) »
Please can I have information on John Lounds b c1811 in Corley Croft, Coventry, Warwickshire. I had originally thought he was John born to Abraham and Mary in Birmingham, Warwickshire. I believe died in 1886 in Bradford, Yorkshire (if its the right one). He married Elizabeth?  and had quite a few children all census but one say Birmingham or Warwickshire. Any help on this would be most appreciated tia x

What info do you have on him from the censuses?

Which of his children are you descended from?  When & where was the child born?  If born after 1837 have you checked freebmd for a birth then GRO online for mothers maiden name

Carole census state he was born between 1811-1813. Most give Birmingham or Warwickshire one says Yorkshire. His wife Elizabeth is on all census as coming from Yorkshire. Thet have around 9 children b 1834-1856. He is a grocer or green grocer x

Not sure how he's connected but he was given as in attendance at my 5 x Grandfather's death. My 5xggf was born in Bedworth x

You've asked us to look for someone born circa 1811 in Corley Croft but you can't give us any evidence that such a person existed?  Is there such a place as Corley Croft?

Sorry Shaun I have exhausted everything myself. There is a place called Corley near to Coventry that's why im interested as he is named on the dc of my 5xggf William Lowns, who was born in Bedworth. From what I can make out there were smaller places within Corley, one being Corley Croft and another being Corley Ash where the motoway services today - possibly Hamlets. I have seen this on several trees well all trees for this guy and didn't just want to add him.

During my research I have found a Thomas Lynns buried in Corley in 1787 and his line goes back as far as 1600s.

Corley is mentioned in the Domesday book as being a village in that location x

Why do you think the John Lounds who reported Williams death was b 1811?

Are you assuming the 1841 entry for John Lownds b 1811 is the same person?

In 1851 & 1861 - his birthplace is just Birmingham & his eldest child was born before 1837 so any marriage would not show John's fathers name
