There's a marriage Tynemouth district 1872 for an Ann Elizabeth Sherriff, one of the possible grooms is Enoch Thompson. Then a marriage for Ann Elizabeth Thompson Morpeth district 1890, one possible groom William Tait. So looks like Jane Ann's mother
Berks / Oxon: Eltham, Annetts, Wiltshire (surname not county), Hawkins, Pembroke, Partridge
Dorset / Hants: Derham, Stride, Purkiss, Sibley
Yorkshire: Pottage, Carr, Blackburn, Depledge
Sussex: Goodyer, Christopher, Trevatt
Lanark: Scott (soldier went to Jersey CI)
Jersey: Fowler, Huelin, Scott

have you got the family in 1871. There is a William Sherriff with wife Dorothy living in Willington, with children
Ann E, 19, b Shilbottle
Esther, 14, b Newcastle
Dorothy, 9 b Long Benton
John W 4 b Wallsend
and grandchild, Dorothy A   10 days, b Killington ?

Is Dorothy (granchild) an error and she should be Jane, or did they later change her name ?
freer Dorothy Sherriff baptised 24th March 1871, St Mary the Virgin Willington ,mother Elizabeth Sherriff, abode Rosehill

I thought I ruled out the possibility of the Tait family, although evidently there’s a connection now w/ Dorothy living with them in 1901.

William Tait & Jane Ann Mackenzie
in 1874, Morpeth, 10b, 625.

TAIT, HENRY       MCKENZIE
GRO Reference: 1875  S Quarter in MORPETH  Volume 10B  Page 354

TAIT, FRANCES  JANE     MCKENZIE
GRO Reference: 1878  M Quarter in MORPETH  Volume 10B  Page 347

TAIT, WILLIAM       MCKENZIE
GRO Reference: 1880  S Quarter in MORPETH  Volume 10B  Page 334

TAIT, ISABEL       MCKENZIE
GRO Reference: 1882  S Quarter in MORPETH  Volume 10B  Page 345

TAIT, MARY       MCKENZIE
GRO Reference: 1884  D Quarter in MORPETH  Volume 10B  Page 347

So Jane Ann Mackenzie died at some point, and he remarried to Ann Elizabeth (Thompson) in 1890  ???
