Could anyone please help me with the families of Matthews & Jessop. The marriage of Henry M & Jane J was 1826

There's a match for these two names in the Diocesan & Prerogative Marriage Licence Bonds on the National Archives website, 1826 Ossory Diocese, so likely established church. I believe Maryborough would have been in Leighlin Diocese

Many thanks. Would their denomination be Church of Ireland. Is it possible to know who their parents were. I think jane had a sister, who also married.

Church of Ireland marriage records from the 1820s rarely contained parents names. All you normally get are the couples names, the date and their 2 witnesses. Occasionally a townland, but little more.

That said, in this case I think Maryborough would have been in Glankeen Church of Ireland’s records. Their early records were destroyed in the 1922 fire in Dublin and they have nothing for the 1820s now.

Thank you. Are there any other options I could explore.

The latest RCB parish list I have dated July 2025 notes that it's library holds registers for Maryborough (Portlaoise) civil parish of Borris back to 1793, with baptisms, marriages and deaths along with other details. These are available to view in their Library in Rathfarnham South County Dublin.

The town of Maryborough was in Leighlin Diocese but not that far from parts of Ossory and several other Diocese, given that marriages generally took place in the brides parish, maybe this Jane lived somewhere in a parish nearby covered by Ossory and the groom in Maryborugh ?

note : the Diocese setup seems to have changed over the years as Maryborough Church of Ireland is now listed under the Diocese of Cashel or "Cashel, Ferns & Ossory".

note : the Diocese setup seems to have changed over the years as Maryborough Church of Ireland is now listed under the Diocese of Cashel or "Cashel, Ferns & Ossory".

This is simply due to the amalgamation or uniting of diocese. Leighlin diocese was united with Ferns as far back as the 1600s, Ferns was united with Ossory in the 1800s, and Ossory was united With Cashel in recent times.
