Annie Chance 1855
« on: Saturday 23 August 25 12:19 BST (UK) »
On 22 March 1873 in Cambridge, Annie Chance (sp, fathers name [blank] ) married James Fordham.

The 1839 register suggests Annie was born 10 May 1855.
All the census following the marriage record her birth place as Cambridge.

Can anyone see Annie Chance before her marriage?

There is an Annie Chance age 13 born about 1858 Cambridge  working as a servant at Newmarket Road

Sub District St Andrew the great Cambridge

I notice  from her marriage that  address and district is the same

1861 she is an inmate in Cambridge see 1024/folio 132/page 4  Birthplace not known

She may possibly have been born elsewhere but ended up in Cambridge as a child so thought that is where she was born

Thanks for looking. There are no obvious births in GRO. Most surnames of CHANCE look to be born and living in the West Midlands.
If she was in the Workhouse at six years old with no obvious relation living there, maybe she was just given a name by the authorities.

Just looked at the baptism 3 Nov 1867. Not too many clues there. There were over 190 inmates in the workhouse and maybe it was policy to baptise those children without parents.
