Elizabeth Horton
« on: Friday 22 August 25 14:34 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Can anyone help me find the family details of Elizabeth Horton, born 21st September 1894 in Sheffield, and died Q4 1958.

We are trying to find out who her parents were. She married in 1915, we believe to Samual David Wood.

In the 1901 census, she was living with her Aunt and Uncle, James and Elizabeth O'Reilly, in Brightside, Sheffield.

Thanks in advance

In 1901 also living with the O'Reilly's was brother in law Thomas Horton age 50 (Widower)b Sheffield and his daughter Christina - presumably the father and sister of Elizabeth.

I think this was Thomas Horton and family in 1891 living in Shefffield

Thomas Horton 37    Head Steel Roller b Sheffield
Sarah Horton 34 Wife
Christana Horton    2    Daughter
Sarah Pugh 81    Mother-in-law born Down Ireland
Catharine Pugh  19    Niece

The mother in law's surname ties in with the mothers maiden name on this GRO Birth Index birth for Elizabeth Horton
 HORTON, ELIZABETH   mmn     PUGH

Thank you.

Does anything show up on the 1911 census?

In 1911 Elizabeth is still living as a niece with Elizabeth O'Reilly and family in Sheffield.   She is a Cardboard Box maker.   Neither her sister and father are living with them

Added - Possible death  of Elizabeth's mother Sarah in the same qtr Elizabeth was born

Purchase of her birth certificate - digital image for £3.00 from GRO - would confirm her parents.  Just register with GRO (no charge) and you will be able to download the image.

In my opinion the marriage residence is not always the place of birth. Never forget Workhouse and overseers accounts records of birth

It sounds a bit like Sarah Horton (Nee Pugh) may have died after having Elizabeth Horton and never recovered after the child birth going by the dates late in1894
