non-member trees in Ancestry
« on: Thursday 21 August 25 10:41 BST (UK) »
Just helping a gentleman who has an Ancestry tree but whose membership has lapsed. When we click on "Trees" we just get a basic 3-person tree, although some details are available for other people he has entered. Are one's own trees no longer available to non-members? Chris

Now found a fuller tree by searching a known person's name. But why is this? I'm a member so I can't compare my own situation.

He should still be able to access his account by logging in as normal.

Perhaps taking out a Monthly subscription at £10.99 is the way to go to enable the Gedcom to be downloaded and Full Editing Access Including Viewing Live Persons can be granted to yourself.

Then cancel auto renewal.

I let my subscription lapse and can still view my tree which has over 1000 people on it. What I cannot see are other peoples trees.
I do not know whether I can edit it but then the tree is only there for DNA matches to view.

Thanks very much. We have a work-round now and he has been able to edit his tree. I expect Ancestry are letting people think they must re-subscribe.

I have 16 trees on Ancestry, and haven't had a subscription since 2014!

I can view and edit all the people in all of the trees.
I just can't add Ancestry-derived data or images.

sometimes i think a tree has only 3 living people but if i search a known name the rest of the tree appears but not linked to home person
i think sometimes where there is an adoptee on a branch tree owners deliberately detach the connection and keep floating branches

I’ve not had a membership for over two years. (up to my neck in work)  Nonetheless, I find myself logging in about twice a week, and I have full use of all my trees, can add images, alter dates etc.  I have about ten different trees.

Of course, what I can’t do is use the research aspects.  Which is only normal.  So..., in reality.  The subscription relates only to research.

Can one of you who can access their tress without a subscription please see if you can create a Gedcom file and download it?

It would be useful to know this.
