Willis deaths Middleham
« on: Tuesday 19 August 25 10:04 BST (UK) »
Trying to locate the deaths of Thomas WILLIS and his wife Ann in and around Middleham. They were both in Kirkgate in Middleham in 1841.

Thomas was born in Middleham in 1781, and does not appear in 1851 census. Various trees have his death as 1846 but nothing showing up on FreeBMD, GRO or Middleham burials.

Ann was born in Newark, Nottinghamshire in about 1781. She appears in 1851 in Middleham as a widow, living with her son-in-law John TAYLOR in Kirkgate, Middleham. Various trees have her death as 1864, but again nothing showing up on FreeBMD, GRO or Middleham burials.

If Ann died in 1864 then she should appear in the 1861 census. Can't find her in that either. Not with the Taylors. No AW in any institution.

Thanks

The 1864 Ann death must be this one,

Name:    Age at Death (in years):
   WILLIS, ANN        75
GRO Reference: 1864  J Quarter in LEYBURN  Volume 09D  Page 347

There is also

Deaths Dec 1868
Willis    Ann   age 81    Leyburn    9d   366

Both ages are a bit off, but this often happens if the informant doesn't know the true age. Not found her in 1861 either.
Could Thomas have died away from home?

Thanks fiddlerslass.

Thomas and Ann's son Thomas WILLIS was living at Wensley in 1861 and 1881, died and buried there in 1890. Born in Middleham in 1812. Have not looked for him in 1871. His second wife's family were from Wensley.

I've found both these Ann's in 1861, neither have birthplace of Newark or Notts. The Preston one is the wife of farmer Christopher Willis, and the Leyburn one is a proprietor of houses born Burneston yks.
Very puzzling where yours could be!
