My grandfather (Henry Richardson COWAN) was born on 4 October, 1873 at 4 Locton Street, Bow, London. I believe this street no longer exists as such today, however I am seeking please any details about this property (if possible) around 1873. I am particularly keen to obtain a photograph of this house, hopefully around that time. Any help is much appreciated. Thanking you. Cheers, Rob.

Are you sure about the name of the street?

Browsing the lists on https://www.maps.thehunthouse.com/Streets/Street_Name_Changes.htm, for both 1857-1929 and 1929-1945 shows no mention of "Locton Street"?

Go here

https://www.londonpicturearchive.org.uk/

and search for Locton street. there is a picture of numbers 2-10.

From maps and census records you should be able to locate the position of number 4.

It takes time........

Good luck

Martin

There is a mistake on the captions at London Picture Archive. The picture I referred to is captioned Locton Street Bow. There is another picture alongside of the same location captioned Lockton Street Kensington. Take your pick. I'm inclined to think the two pictures are more likely to be Kensington.

Thanks for the feedback! The address appears on the birth certificate of my grandfather (1873). I am guessing Locton Street may have become Locton Green but keen to clarify, thanks. Cheers, Rob

Here's a clip from 1948 OS map with house numbers. Doesn't look like the picture in the LPA.

There are two Cowan families in that area in the 1871 census, at 4 and 5 Kelly Terrace which is enumerated after 6 Locton Street. Frederick Cowan at 4 and George Cowan at 5.

Thanks Shaun. So where is Kelly Terrace in relation to Locton Street? I have seen evidence of the Kelly Terrace addresses but was unsure exactly where this was. Rob
