Hue and cry
« on: Sunday 17 August 25 15:24 BST (UK) »
My gt grandfather Charles Gallacher was attacked in Neilston and subsequently died of his injuries on 5 July 1885. From his hospital records (unbelievable that I actually have them) I know the surname of his attacker.
On 15 August a ‘hue and cry’ was issued for this attacker accused of culpable homicide (same name)
I’ve tried to find out further information about details held by Renfrewshire Constabulary which led to the issue of the hue and cry notice.
I’d also like to know if his attacker was ever apprehended.
I’ve tried searching Police Records but I haven’t had any success.
If anyone can help I’d appreciate it.
I haven’t mentioned the attacker’s name to ensure his family’s privacy albeit the attack was 140 years ago but of course happy to share with anyone who can help.

I would suggest looking for newspaper reports.
Hinchliffe - Huddersfield Wiltshire
Burroughs - Arlingham Glos
Pick - Frocester Glos

Thank you for your response,

What would be the best way of finding out which newspapers were in circulation at the time and subsequently making an enquiry about the event?
