Hello Rob

Thomas Larkin was the brother of my ancestor John.

I have done extensive research piecing this family together across their moves from Brenchley to Goudhurst and then to Cranbrook.  My branch then settled in Horsmonden.

I did not come to a conclusion about George Larkin's ancestry.

The Brenchley PRs  showed the baptism of a George Larkene on 1 November 1654 the son of Edward a Hempdresser but also a burial of “Geo Larken son of Edward, deceased on 17 February 1664.”  The burial of Edward hempdresser was recorded on 11 October 1657.

FamilySearch  showed 1 other baptism in Kent for the period 1640-1670:

George Larkin 29 July 1663 Marden, Kent, father: John Larkin mother: Elizabeth

There were others but further afield, the nearest being in London, Sussex and Hertford.

The Marden Parish Registers  showed:

1662 September: John Larkin and Elizabeth Indvill were married the 30th day
1663 July: George son of John and Elizabeth Larkin was baptized the 29th day
1663 August: Elizabeth wife of John Larkin was Buried the 2nd Day

There was no evidence of a remarriage in Marden for John Larkin or any burial there .

The Probate Indexes for the Canterbury and Rochester Diocese show no wills that can immediately connect to John.

That was as far as I got back in 2017 and I have not done a thorough review since.

I have come to a bit of cross roads as well with George i keep leaving it and returning every now and then!
My direct line is John & Thomas's brother William born 1706 Goudhurst
Joseph 1738 Benenden
Joseph 1771 Beckley
Isaac 1801 Brede
Isaac 1829 Sedlescombe
Frederick 1861 Hastings
After that they stayed in Hastings until 1960s now we are local to Horsmonden
I have been working on your John Larkin line for the last few months as my mothers line is Collins from Marden and it seems both family's lived closely in Goudhurst, Brenchley and Horsmonden
I think it could be that Georges father is Edward as Edward also born in Brenchley although i have John Larkin and Elizabeth pencilled in

Not related but have looked at this briefly.

I would not be confident of Edward being Georges Father as George/Eliz never bapt a Son Edward` between 1686-1706 in Brenchley and Goudhurst.

I agree that the Edward Larkin is unlikely. The 1664 burial of a George Larkin son of Edward in Brenchley is hard to ignore. I would need to check, but am sure I couldn't find a marriage for Edward Larkin.

My ancestor, John, was the oldest son of George and Elizabeth so could have been named after his grandfather.  Elizabeth's father was also a John however!  My own Larkin line has no boys named Edward and I do not recall the name in my wider researches on the Larkin family.

Rob if you want any help with John's line I am happy to help.  To date I have not found a burial for John or for his 1st wife Elizabeth Morgan.  Fortunately John left a will which narrows his death date.  The will was written on 8 September 1775 and probate was issued 7 July 1778.  John remarried in August 1757.  His last child with Elizabeth was baptised in May 1745.  That was my direct ancestor George. I am stiil on the hunt to find these burials.

I have a marriage for William Larkin to Frances Ballard in 1732 in Cranbrook and then the baptisms of 5 children, the burial of Frances the mother and the burial of the youngest child Sarah.  I have not pursued this line.  I believe William was buried in 1774.

Sorry for not replying! 
I have paused on the George Larkin bit for the time being, sometimes working on other areas of the family helps!

I am going to concentrate on the Thomas Larkin 1701 line brother of your John and my William
I have worked on your John line over the past few months and have some gaps which i may ask you some questions if ok.

Its so interesting growing up near Horsmonden all my life and never realising that my ancestors were local to me, i have actually worked in the Schoolhouse farm house garden about 20 years ago.
I also have a connection with the Tompsetts and Tworts by marriage on my mums Collins family and my aunt and uncle used to work on Hazel street farm near to Ashdowns.

No problem, I have been away from home anyway.

Yes, I have shelved George Larkin's ancestors too for the time being.

I have quite a lot on Thomas Larkin.  My ancestor John was his executor.  It was really the connections between John, Thomas and their other siblings that enabled me to construct the family with a good degree of certainty.  I would have to check but I think they were both churchwardens in Cranbrook and I also have details of the rates they paid.

Thomas' son another Thomas married his cousin Mary who was John's younger daughter.

Mary Twort who married George Larkin (grandson of John) was my 4th x great grandmother.  She was a widow whose 1st husband was Richard Ballard.

I shall be checking what I have on your line and will probably need to ask you some questions too.

We have visited Horsmonden a couple of times as well as Brenchley and Cranbrook.  Last time we had a look at both Ashdown and Schoolhouse farm. There are some wonderful buildings.

Longer ago I went to the Cranbrook archives who were very helpful.  This was before many of the Kent parish registers were online.  I have also spent many days and hours in the Archives at Maidstone.
