I wondered why a "pot dealer" would move to Cockermouth.

I was so surprised to see the answer was the famous name of  "Wedgewood Pottery"

"While Cockermouth wasn't necessarily famous for large-scale pottery production like some other areas, it does have a history of pottery making, particularly in the surrounding area. Specifically, Dearham, near Cockermouth, was known for its Wedgwood pottery, with Aaron and Jonathan Wedgwood establishing potteries there in the early 18th century."

Wow. I had the impression that my McKenzie ancestors were more traveling pottery salesman.
My 2nd gr grandparents opened a China shop in Cockermouth that was there for generations that did include fine china. I have seen examples from my living cousins in Cumbria as that is where their mother, Nancy Keenan, worked.
