... Curious to know from the 1911 census was a grandson Patrick Phelan which im sure emmigrated to Canada in 1926 his parents where James Phelan and Mary Wright looking at their marriage i can see one name that connects both marriages theirs and Denis McLernon/Mary Jane Sands and it is a John Mallon plus from 1894 there is Sarah Sands/Sandys and from the 1908 marriage there is Ellen McLernon any thoughts would be gratefully recieved. Mary Jane Wright was the illegitimate daughter born to Mary Jane Sands at Coagh in 1888 (top entry in the link below):

A transcript of her baptismal record in a subscription website records the father as Thomas Wright and indicates that she went on to marry James Phelan.

Well blow my socks gaffy because Mary Jane already had a illegitmate son Patrick Sands in aug 1884 (who brought me to her line) in Coagh/Cookstown and Patrick married a Mary Sands (she was born in Govan Glasgow but her parents org from Derry/Tyrone) in 1916 Govan/Glasgow and his cert says mother Mary Jane Sands jute spinner subsequently married to Denis McLernon then in brackets deceased and it turns out deceased was for his mother. So we now have 2 children born (both maybe different fathers as Patrick has no father shown) then his mother marries Denis in 1894. Got to thank you all for finding out what was very complicated (in my old greying eyes) family web , i still have to find where Patrick was in 1901/1911 wether in Ireland or Scotland before he married but once again many many thanks to all and gaffy for the last info very pleased i am to have connected the right family after all. A Patrick Sands in Coagh in 1911- age 26 (born c1885)
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Tyrone/Coagh/Ballinderry_Street/857272/

If that the correct Patrick then this might be him in the same household in 1901 with a different surname-

Added- looks like Mary Phelan witness to death of Sarah Sands in 1920-

Cheers aghadowey good finds. was working on the premise that maybe the 2 children Patrick and Mary Jane born out of wed lock maybe where orphaned out but the later census showing grandson may discount that and also daughter Mary Jane (grand son mother) now married living next door makes me think other wise its just odd the two first born are not on the 1901 census with her. According to his civil birth registration, Patrick Sands was born at Urbal, Co. Tyrone on 20 August 1884, no father specified, the mother Mary Jane registered him on 11 September 1884.

I can see a transcript of a baptism in Coagh for a Patrick McCanny on 31 August 1884, the parents transcribed as Joseph McCanny and Mary Jane Crooks. I would like to see an original image of the register to see if it is possible that "Crooks" could be a mistranscription of "Sands", for there is a comment at the bottom of the record indicating that he was illegitimate and that he went on to marry "Mary Sand" on 24 October 1916 in "Gorran"  (Govan?).

Thanks gaffy though he has no mention of a fathers name on his marriage in Glasgow only that his mother later married Denis and his death in 1963 in Glasgow/Govan likewise only mentions his mother with her married surname. Garngad

1926 emigration to Canada for Phelan family is correct the birth of their daughter Mary Elizabeth in 1914 states father James is in France with royal inniskilling fusiliers and daughter Mary then marries in Canada so i know now that connection is correct. Garngad
