Palmers of Killead
« on: Monday 11 August 25 18:00 BST (UK) »
Hi I have been researching my paternal line and although I’ve got a lot of information I’ve hit I brick wall. The palmer family lived in the Killead/ crumlin area but I’ve been unable to find graves for my direct ancestors… Margaret palmer ( 1859-1910) married David Nicholl, John skeffington palmer (1823-1901) married Margaret Moore (1825-1900) and skeffington palmer( 1780-1844)married to Catherine hepwell(1800-1866)

We have found brothers, sisters, children etc buried in st Catherine COI but nothing in Killead pres or crumlin. I have found some inserts in the newsletter and telegraph of internment in Antrim churchyard if anybody would know what graveyard this would be….pre 1900

Not sure if this helps but Google search has this  ??? ???

"Templecorran graveyard in Antrim, located in the Larne Borough Council area, has records of burials predating 1900, including some of the earliest gravestones and burial sites. The graveyard is part of an Early Christian enclosure and contains a medieval church ruin, foundations of buildings, and the oldest stone in the graveyard. GenGuide's online resources detail that the graveyard has records of burials from counties Antrim and Down, including Roman Catholic and Church of Ireland registers"

Thank you
I hadn’t even heard of this graveyard! It was strange that the death notice didn’t say a specific church and although I’ve been able to find birth and marriage certificates for most of them even the death certificates for some are impossible to track down 🤦‍♀️
Marriages and baptisms are mainly in st cathrine’s coi in killead or the pres church there. I’ll try this 1 and carry on with the hunt🤯🤯🙈
Thanks again

I'm not sure why this was even offered as a suggestion for a family that were in the Killead area- it's over 20 miles from there (near Larne).

Here's the obituary I found for you a while ago-
Belfast Newsletter, 10 Feb.1866: PALMER- February 9, at 4, Montgomery Street, Belfast, Catherine, relict of the late Skeffington Palmer, Killead. Her remains will be removed from her late residence for interment in Antrim Church-yard on Monday morning, the 12th instant, at ten o'clock. Friends will please accept this intimation.

Another-
Northern Whig, 8 Jan.1900: PALMER—January 5. at her residence, Mount Cottage. Dungormell, Margaret Moore, beloved wife of John Palmer. Her remains will removed for interment in Antrim Church Burying-ground ...
Husband John's death notices the following year also mention the family burial ground, Antrim.

Can't see burial instructions in Will but to be honest the writing in the Will Book is so difficult to read I could have missed it.
Probate of the Will of John Palmer late of Dungonnell Killead County Antrim Farmer who died 27 March 1901 granted at Belfast to John S. Palmer and Walter Palmer Farmers.

Thanks for your help, I hadn’t even had got the obituaries and also 1 for skeffington’s brother and sister. Also death certificates, land purchase, census records but still no success. I have the baptism records of all John skeffington’s children and had hoped because of this and as it was church he was married in that he might’ve been buried there. Unfortunately not but found his so /daughter and uncle just.
Wish I could find out or even narrow down what grave yards Antrim church yard is but thanks for the tip!

Have you checked the burial register at St. Catherine's COI or just looked for headstones? Many family plots aren't marked either because it cost too much or they didn't bother.

Added- burial register (1873-1942) microfilmed and available to view at PRONI- MIC1/293

Yes unfortunately, the graves were quite large plots and it was quite a small churchyard but no records for the palmers that I was looking for.
