Burma
« on: Monday 11 August 25 15:29 BST (UK) »
Hi, with VJ day coming up I would like to find which regiment my great uncle was in, I know he was in Burma, he didn't speak about it only he once said the Japs were very cruel.
I looked at his medal card on Ancestry
It just says Mr H H Hopton ( Herbert Harry born 1915 Castleford)
Medals applied May 1948 Royal Reg of Artillery  Gunner 39-45 star,  Burma, Defence & War.  Is there a way to find his unit or would I have to buy his service record?
Thanks

Not sure if it is the same person as transcribed as Hubert Harry Hopton but FindMyPast has Royal Artillery Attestations lists

Army No - 1103743 - G. Fld. T Regt.  7/5

N.R. Identity No. KP GB 232/8

Stamped on it is Extracted to NSRW

Thank you for this, that's right he died 1988, his wife my Grans sister died in 1979, she worked making tanks at Barn Bow Leeds. I remember them both very well.
