Roman Catholic Records
« on: Saturday 09 August 25 18:42 BST (UK) »
Hi all.

I am looking for the father of William Walsh, who was born in Wigan, Lancs.  On his census records between 1891-1921, his date of birth varies between 1853, 1855, 1856 etc.  On GRO there are possibilities for each of these dates.

The family are Roman Catholic, and I have been unable to access either baptism records or marriage records.

William married Ann Latchford in Wigan Church/Registry Office in 1890.  They had children, Mary Ellen, Thomas and William.  Ann had a son, James, before she was married.

As the 1921 census is the most recent and, perhaps, more likely to be correct, I have downloaded the b/c for 1853, which states that the father is John and the mother is Mary, nee Hilton.

Apart from buying the marriage certificate, how else can I confirm his father?  R.

Hi again.  Thank you.  The one born in 1853 and the one born in 1856 both had fathers named John!  The William Walsh I am looking at died in 1937.  R.

1871 3881/130/7

William Walsh, 17yrs living with brother James 38 yrs and his wife in Shevington.
Brother John, 20yrs also there.
Next door is Andrew Walsh and family.

There are several deaths for Mary Walsh but you would need to check all this.
The marriage certificate would be best.
