Hello
I'm looking into my family tree and there's always been talk of us descending from Romani's in Yorkshire but I'm having trouble finding evidence. My family seems to have been around Selby/Snaith in Yorkshire. With jobs listed as general/farm labourers. I've found no direct decendent on the rtfhs.

My great great grandfather was Frank Clayton 1821-1890
(His father)
Abraham Clayton 1821-
(His father )
William Clayton 1788-1880
(Hi father)
John Clayton 1758-1832
Any info on if these were Romani peoples would be great as there's no one left to ask in my immediate family.

Clayton is an old Romany name, mostly from the North of England.
Robert Dawson lists the earliest mention 1775.
