Benson family in 1921 at Scarth Hill, Lathom
« on: Yesterday at 12:50 »
In 1921 living at Waterworks House, Scarth Hill, Lathom is
Henry Benson aged 49 single stationry engine driver (head)
William Benson aged 48 single boiler fireman (brother)
Ellen Benson aged 46 single home duties (sister)
Arthur Benson aged 40 married crane driver (brother)
Martha Ann Benson aged 37 married home duties (sister in law)
John Harold Benson aged 12 (nephew)

wondered if this house has been demolished to make way for the "new" water tower that was built later

thanks

This overlaid map view uses a mid-20th century large scale OS map. Slide the slider to reveal the modern view (satellite) showing the modern tower.

This shows that there was no house at that time in the position of the ‘new’ tower. I was hoping to see a Waterworks House labelled here, but it was not to be.

Same idea but the upper map is a 25 inch map from ~1920s and the lower map is the same as the upper map from the previous reply. Lots of changes.

In 1921 the Waterworks House entry is immediately preceded by: The Firs; Firs Cottages (2 households); and Bewcastle. These were on Ruff Lane: if you use the 25 inch map and scroll up to go to the top of Scart Hill Lane where it meets Ruff Lane and Whiteleys Lane you’ll see The Firs and Bewcastle are marked on Ruff Lane to the NW of the junction. This is consistent with the idea that Waterworks House was towards the top of Scarth Hill Lane, but it certainly doesn’t prove it.
