Mile End Old Town and Marylebone register offices

Hello,

I’ve searched Google Books for anything relating to the Mile End Old Town register office, to try and find the address and see if the building is still standing or at least what is on the site now, as I have a marriage in my family here from 1873. I’ve not turned anything up except annual returns of births, marriages, and deaths. Could anyone please help me?

For the Marylebone register office, I read this was a court that was later demolished, with Marylebone Town Hall replacing it in its functions. The wedding in question for this was in 1890. Could anyone please find for me what is now on the site?

Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

Doesn't help much - a newspaper item refers to "Registry -office Mile-end-road" in 1870. Have looked at old maps but can't see it labelled.

Another newspaper item says "Bancroft-road, Mile End - road registry office". So in this general location.

I think you could well be right. I’ve found it so with other registry offices I’ve successfully tracked down. The building is still standing, so I’ll ask the present occupants if they know anything. Thanks maddys52!

And I’ve found the old courthouse on Marylebone Lane. It evidently was demolished and became the Stratford Court Hotel, and then another hotel. I’ve found the location, so can go and see for myself.
