Poland & Czechia: Wawrzyniec Schneider and Uliana Mrosek
« on: Thursday 31 July 25 17:58 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I'm looking for information about Wawrzyniec Schneider and Uliana Mrosek, my sixth-generation great-grandparents. Mrosek appears to be a surname of Czech origin. Their children were Johanna, Josef, Marianna, Jan, Antoni, Jan, and Simon Schneider. It appears they raised their children in Łuków, Rybnik County, Silesia. Their eldest child was likely born in 1780. Information about siblings, birth dates, and parents would be appreciated. I am wondering if there is a connection here to Austrian 'Crownlands' in Czechia?
Best regards,
Brian

I see from Geneteka that the children were actually christened in
Pstrążna. I had a look for scans in the Polish archives, but could only see births from the 1830's onwards . Pstrążna was known as Straußeney in German and was part of "Czech corner" or
Böhmischer Winkel and had Czech inhabitants.

There is an OFB (family history book) see here ( in German) which tells you some of the history of the place

https://ofb.genealogy.net/strausseney/

According to this, some of the records are in the Catholic registers of Czermna/Tscherbeney

Try Family search

May need to order a film at local centre.

Nothing came when I tried searching Straussey in the FS catalog. In genealodzy.pl, the parish is listed as Pstrążna-Pstrzonsna but the town is Łuków Śląski. Should I be looking somewhere else?

As far as I understand, the baptisms took place in or were were at least registered in the Roman Catholic church dedicated to St. Nicholas (św.Mikołaja) in the parish Pstrążna, Rybnik, Śląskie (formally Pstrzonsna, Rybnik, Schlesien, Preußen).

Unfortunately I don’t think that the 18th century images are available online. I assume that you might need to contact the local parish or the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Katowice Archive, but maybe someone else has a better idea.

The Straußeney Parish or town (Pstrążna) you (fiddlerslass) recommend is in the Czech Corner in the Glatz kreis, correct? The correct kreis or parish is likely Pstrążna, Rybnik, Śląskie (formally Pstrzonsna, Rybnik, Schlesien, Preußen) as TreeSpirit recommends. So there was some confusion because the spelling of the parish names are virtually identical, although they lie in different counties (or kreis). I am betting mine is in Rybnik.
