Dorset Family History Society's Online Zoom Monthly Meeting
« on: Wednesday 30 July 25 11:40 BST (UK) »
Tuesday 28th October 2025, 7.30pm - 9.00pm (Zoom sign-in from 7.15pm)

Dorset Family History Society will be hosting an online Zoom meeting talk by SUE PAUL entitled 'HENRY SMITH, A MOST NOTORIOUS, NAUGHTY, FALSE, LYING FELLOW - A GLOBAL BLACK SHEEP OR MALIGNED CHARACTER?’.

This will be a light-hearted case study demonstrating how to reconstruct a seventeenth-century life that cannot be found in traditional genealogical records to enhance your ancestral history.

Recently retired after many years as a senior project manager in the IT industry, Sue Paul has had a number of articles published in a wide variety of specialist magazine and journals. She is an experienced public speaker including a talk at the 2019 AGRA Conference.

An experienced amateur genealogist, over recent years Sue’s full attention has been on writing her biography of Captain Thomas Bowrey – a late seventeenth century East Indies mariner and early eighteenth century Wapping merchant uncovered during her One-Name study – which was published in 2020. She is currently compiling a detailed catalogue of Bowrey’s unpublished personal papers. This rich source has provided material for many new talks.

Society Members who have consented to receive information by e-mail will find a meeting invitation link in the latest E-News, usually sent on the last Friday each month. If that has not been received, it is also available in the password protected Members’ Area on the website (www.dorsetfhs.org.uk)

Those who do not receive E-News, or who are not Society Members, are welcome to join this meeting and should email  liaison@dorsetfhs.org.uk   with a request for an invitation link. This request should reach us at least 6 hours before the meeting is due to start, and the link will be sent about 2 hours before the meeting starts.

We welcome a £3.00 donation from each person after they have attended a meeting, payable on the Society’s shop on the website  www.dorsetfhs.org.uk

EVERYONE WELCOME TO JOIN THIS MEETING, BOTH MEMBERS & NON-MEMBERS.
