Hello all,
I have been restoring this wonderful old photograph of my grandmother with lots of children in the Albion Hill area of Brighton, taken in the very early 1920s, and thought it was worth sharing here in case anyone had young relatives from that area at the same time. They may well be in this picture.
My nan (front row, third from the right) lived in Liverpool Street, so it is possible this picture was taken there. She was born in 1914, and I am guessing she looks about 7 or 8 at this time, so 1921-22 is a rough date. I have no idea of any names of the other children.
I think it is also fascinating as a glimpse into what kids in the back streets of Brighton were wearing at the time. A number of the boys are wearing ties, some with waistcoats, and there's even a little chap with a bow tie on. No scruffy street urchins here!
Colours may be a bit fanciful but it is lovely to see their faces smiling out from a century ago.
Original image for comparison.
